Christian Psychology & Spiritual Formation

Dr. Michael Ruth writes at the intersection of theology, psychology, human development, and spiritual formation, helping readers turn everyday struggles into stepping stones for spiritual, emotional, and relational growth. He is an author, counselor, and psychotherapist in East Tennessee, where he grew up. His private practice, Growth Resources Counseling Center, is now in its 36th year — built and sustained all that time by word of mouth alone. For as long as he can remember, his passion has been to learn all he can and then share what he learns, through his writing and with his clients. His clients often tell him his books read just like a session with him: warm, compassionate, and able to break down complex psychospiritual concepts into pieces that deliver both healing and strength right where it’s needed most.

In Anxiety and How to Conquer It, he tackles the psychological architecture of anxiety, how moral compromise fuels it, and the unique struggles of the anxious Christian, pairing cognitive-behavioral insight with biblical wisdom.

In Grace in the Ashes: The Soul’s Journey Through Grief, he turns to a different kind of struggle — the grief that touches every life, not only through death but through any form of loss. The book walks readers through why grief runs so deep, “working the stages” falls short, and how faith and psychology work together toward healing.

Mike holds a PhD from Oxford Graduate School, where his dissertation, The Virulent Personality: A Proposal for the Clinical Classification of Pathological Evil as a Psychiatric Disorder, earned him the Chalice Award for outstanding doctoral research. When he’s not writing, Mike enjoys long talks with his wife, especially over the barbecue, a good book, great music, and time in the Smoky Mountains he calls home.

Memoir / Testimony

Ian Reilly is an Australian author, artist, innovator and entrepreneur whose life has spanned classrooms and boardrooms, from the Silicon Valley to remote Pacific villages. Ian writes for people drawn to big questions and open to new ideas, and readers searching for depth, courage and authenticity. Encounter is his powerful true story of cultural collision and personal transformation — a book for anyone hungry for a gripping story, for meaning and purpose, authentic experience, or those who have crossed borders to feel lost, overwhelmed and out of place. Growing up on a small Australian sheep farm, Ian studied engineering and commenced working for the Australian Army. In 1990 Ian and his wife Heather left the comfort of suburban Australia to teach in Samoa, where they were immediately struck by a devastating cyclone. Emerging without power, water and running out of food, they stepped into disorienting cultural collision, ethical dilemmas, and physical hardship. Immersing themselves into a radically different culture challenged their assumptions about poverty, power, privilege, and justice while teaching them valuable life lessons. As a global innovator, Ian used his Samoan cross cultural experience to lead large multinational, cross-functional teams to design highly innovative, world-first products for clients in the US, Europe and Japan. In 2014 Ian founded the agri-tech startup Agersens that created eShepherd - the world’s first virtual fence for livestock. Exiting Agersens in 2021, Ian retired from paid work and focused on writing, painting, speaking and mentoring others.

founded the Allegiant Faith Network to help Christians know, live, and defend their faith online. Raised in the Nazarene Church, he spent years doubting God before seminary pulled him back — hard. Now he writes and publishes as Courageous Chris (@allegiantfaith on Substack and X), building a case for Christianity out of real conversations with skeptics and atheists, not academic theory. His book, The Atheist Conversion Manual, lays out that case in plain English: why God exists, why Jesus is who he claimed to be, and how to hold that ground when someone pushes back.
