✨ What It’s About
Faith With Work Boots On is a 7-week devotional journey through the book of James, written for parents, families, and small groups who want faith that shows up in everyday life. Blending Scripture from the CSB with honest storytelling and practical application, the book challenges readers to move beyond belief into action—choosing patience, mercy, and obedience in ordinary moments.
Each day includes reflection, a simple next step, discussion questions, and family-focused prompts, along with a weekly group study and Leader Guide. It’s a grounded, relatable approach to discipleship designed to help readers live what they believe.
🌅 The Inspiration Behind the Book
The inspiration for Faith With Work Boots On grew out of both prayer and persistence. I had been working on another book and found myself stuck. After asking God for clarity, I was reminded of a seven-week devotional series I had previously written for my church. As I revisited those studies, I began expanding them with stories and reflections from my everyday life as a husband and father. What started as revising old material slowly became something more personal and more urgent.
The book of James stood out because of its practical, real-world tone. James doesn’t deal in abstract theology; he speaks to patience, words, mercy, prayer, and obedience in ways that confront daily life. One verse I have often repeated to myself is, “The fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much.” That steady, active faith is what I hoped to capture.
As I wrote, I felt compelled to include discussion questions that could be used around a dinner table. This book was not written in isolation or from a quiet retreat. It was written on a couch in a house full of children, in the middle of real life. My hope is that families, men’s groups, and small groups would read it together, share honestly, and grow in vulnerability and obedience.
Ultimately, I wrote this book because I want to be a signpost pointing to Christ. Once I began, I could not stop.

✍️ About the Author
Maury Wood is a husband, father of four, and writer who believes faith is meant to be lived in the middle of ordinary life. He didn’t set out to become an author as much as he felt nudged into it—first through teaching devotionals at church, then through writing that grew out of real conversations at the kitchen table.
Much of Maury’s writing is shaped by family life. It’s shaped by loud evenings, hard questions from kids, unfinished projects, and moments where patience runs thin and grace has to show up anyway. He writes from the couch more often than from a desk, and most of his best lines have come between homework help and bedtime prayers. His hope is simple: to point people toward Christ in ways that feel honest, practical, and livable.
He lives in Tennessee with his wife Karen and children, where he continues learning that the Christian life is less about standing still and more about walking faithfully, one step at a time.
